Society for the Advancement of Social Studies
All the history you knew but forgot, and
all the booze you need to forget it again.

The Society for the Advancement of Social Studies (SASS), The Brooklyn Brainery, and Public Assembly are proud to present a series of free lectures designed to both entertain and enlighten. On the first Tuesday of month, we will discuss a different historical topic that you probably knew at one point but don’t remember anymore.

This will be accompanied by fun games, surprise guests, and most importantly THEMED DRINK SPECIALS from the good folks at Public Assembly, which everyone knows is the best way to ensure maximum knowledge gained.

About Us

Co-founders: Larissa Hayden and Anna Rasche

The Society for the Advancement of Social Studies was founded in 2011 by Larissa and Anna, two lovely ladies with a shared passion for history, being classy, and hanging out like champs. When they found that they couldn’t actively pursue their love of history they got together to make S.A.S.S.

Larissa did awesome on her A.P. European History Test in high school and passed A.P. US History by answering every question with “Henry Clay”. Now, she frequently reads poorly researched internet articles to get her history fix.

Anna went above and beyond and studied Archaeology in college, where she learned all about those ancient bad asses. She enjoys good cheese, bad puns and having a captive audience to listen to her rant about the olden days.

In Partnership With: The Brooklyn Brainery

Jen and Soma totally rule. They collaborated to create the Brooklyn Brainery: accessible, community-driven, crowdsourced education.

You can find them over at 515 Court Street in Carroll Gardens, where they host cheap classes on anything and everything.
